Spend enough time in Abu Dhabi and you realise it is not just the big landmarks that impress. It is the details. The kind of places and experiences that sound unbelievable until you actually see them for yourself.

From a gravity-defying tower to taxis with no driver, here are five spots across the capital that show just how different Abu Dhabi really is.

Capital Gate

Location: ADNEC, Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street

You have probably driven past Capital Gate countless times, but it is worth stopping to take it in properly.

Leaning at 18 degrees, this architectural landmark holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s most leaning tower. Unlike Pisa, this tilt was completely intentional, designed to push engineering limits and put Abu Dhabi firmly on the global architecture map.

Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital

Location: Sweihan Road, near Abu Dhabi International Airport

Falcons are a huge part of Emirati heritage, and this place shows just how seriously they are cared for.

The Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital is the largest of its kind in the world, treating more than 11,000 falcons each year. Visitors can book guided tours to see treatment rooms, learn about falcon care and even hold a falcon.

Yes, they also issue falcons with passports so they can travel.

Masdar City Mosque

Location: Masdar City, Abu Dhabi

Masdar City is known for its focus on sustainability, and its mosque reflects that vision perfectly.

This mosque operates at net-zero energy, powered entirely by solar panels. It produces as much energy as it consumes and incorporates water recycling systems. It is a quiet but powerful example of how the UAE is building for the future.

The island features a full network of cycling tracks including 5km, 10km and 15km routes, along with mountain biking trails. It is designed for all levels and completely free to access.

Sunrise and sunset rides here are some of the best in the city.

Driverless Taxis on Yas Island

Location: Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

This is not something coming soon. It is already here.

On Yas Island, you can book a fully driverless taxi through ride-hailing apps. These autonomous vehicles operate without a driver behind the wheel, offering a glimpse into the future of transport in Abu Dhabi.

It is a short ride, but definitely one you will remember.
