Seven new bridges will connect Ramhan and Jubail Islands to Abu Dhabi's E12 highway

Getting around Abu Dhabi's islands is set to become easier, with a major new road network scheduled to open in 2027.

Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced an AED 872 million project that will connect Ramhan and Jubail Islands directly to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway (E12).

The development will include seven bridges, three tunnels, and a network of new roads and ramps, making it easier to access both islands as Abu Dhabi continues to expand.

And there's not too long to wait. The Ramhan Island bridge network is expected to open in the second quarter of 2027, between April and June.

What will the new bridges mean for drivers?

If you regularly travel along the E12 or head towards Jubail and Ramhan Islands, the new connections are designed to make getting in and out of these areas easier. The project will cover more than 166,000 square metres, with additional road capacity and improved connections to the main highway.

It's also part of Abu Dhabi's wider plans to improve transport links as new residential communities and developments take shape across the capital.

There's an environmental element to the project, too. DMT plans to recycle approximately 90 per cent of the waste generated during construction, equivalent to more than 2,200 tonnes of material.

Energy-efficient LED lighting will also be installed across the development to reduce electricity consumption and light pollution.

When will the new bridges open?

The Ramhan Island bridge network is currently scheduled to open between April and June 2027.

It's another major addition to Abu Dhabi's growing road network, alongside the upcoming Mid-Island Parkway, which will introduce new connections between Saadiyat Island and other parts of the capital.

With more bridges, tunnels, and island connections on the way, getting around Abu Dhabi could look quite different over the next few years, and we are totally here for it!
