Al Ain Tower claims Guinness World Record for highest rooftop running track

Abu Dhabi has won another Guinness World Record and this time its for the highest running track on a building.

If you happen to look up while walking through Al Khalidiya, you might just spot someone doing their morning cardio among the clouds. The Al Ain Tower - that's the wavy building, you'll see along the Corniche - has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the highest running track on a building, sitting at a massive 179.7 metres above the ground.

It is a fully functional, open-air track built right onto the roof of the 47-storey skyscraper. For context, running up there means you are pacing out your miles higher than the length of two football fields standing on end, with unobstructed, panoramic views of the Abu Dhabi Corniche and the Arabian Gulf on one side, and the city skyline on the other.

To celebrate the certification, the developers brought in UAE national football team winger Yahya Al Ghassani for a campaign film, making him one of the very first athletes to test it out. 

Putting a running track on top of a skyscraper might seem like a luxury flex, but the city really looks at how to inject active, wellness-focused spaces into places you'd least expect them.

So, if you ever find your usual jog along the Corniche getting a bit repetitive, you know where to look. You just might need a bit of a stomach for heights to get through your final lap.
