As the new academic year begins on 25 August 2025, the Ministry of Interior is calling on drivers across the UAE to join its Accident-Free Day initiative, a nationwide push to make the roads safer for everyone.
Organised by the Federal Traffic Council in coordination with all police commands, the initiative coincides with the Ministry’s Safe School Year campaign, reminding motorists to follow the rules of the road and protect lives as students head back to class.
Drivers are encouraged to take a special online pledge, committing to key safety measures including wearing seat belts, keeping to speed limits, maintaining a safe distance, giving pedestrians priority, avoiding distractions (yes, that means putting your phone away), and always giving way to emergency vehicles.
Those who sign up via the Ministry’s portal will even see four traffic points removed from their record as a reward, with deductions applied automatically on 15 September - so, that means no trip to a service centre needed.
Brigadier Engineer Hussain Ahmed Al Harthi, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, highlighted the importance of the campaign in spreading traffic awareness and reinforcing the laws designed to make the UAE’s roads safer for all.
