Abu Dhabi is about to get a whole lot sweeter. Roald Dahl’s much-loved CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY is making its Middle East debut at Etihad Arena, running from 28 August to 6 September 2026 - and yes, we're hoping it’s every bit as magical as we'd hope.

Fresh from a sold-out run in Shanghai and as part of its global tour, the blockbuster musical brings Willy Wonka’s wildly imaginative world to life with jaw-dropping sets, clever illusions and all the nostalgia-inducing songs you grew up with. Expect chocolate rivers, nut-loving squirrels, mischievous Oompa-Loompas and a whole lot of “Pure Imagination”.

Based on Dahl’s iconic novel, the stage production follows young Charlie Bucket as he unwraps a golden ticket that changes his life forever. Alongside classic numbers from the 1971 film like The Candy Man and I’ve Got a Golden Ticket, the show also features original music by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (the duo behind Hairspray and Mary Poppins Returns).

This touring production is known for its high-tech stagecraft, including cutting-edge 3D hologauze effects and theatrical “wizardry” created by Las Vegas illusion designer Tim Clothier - making it a proper spectacle for kids, adults and anyone who still secretly wants to live in a chocolate factory.

The production arrives in the capital via Proactiv Entertainment, in partnership with Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi and Miral, continuing Abu Dhabi’s run of major family-friendly shows and global theatre productions.

With Broadway pedigree, West End acclaim (including two Olivier Awards), and a creative team packed with Tony Award winners, this is one of those shows that feels like a big cultural moment — not just a night at the theatre.
