Get creative at this cute pottery making studio

Ever fancied making your very own bowl, mug or vase? Well, you can at Abu Dhabi Pottery. The cool pottery making studio has been around in the capital for years, but after seven years in the city, it was our first visit to the ceramic filled haven. We popped along for our Eighth wedding anniversary where traditionally you gift your partner a present made from bronze or a pottery item - what could go wrong?

Three Point Review:

1 - #studio is a small little workshop that can actually fit between 10-15 people in it. Alongside the main clay moulding table they also have four pottery wheels so you can really channel your inner Demi Moore in Ghost, whilst you try your hardest not to make a mess.

2 - #activity of creating a clay masterpiece is so therapeutic. Two hours let us first hollow out a bowl of clay that will later be dried in a heated oven that burns over 1600 degrees! We were taught techniques by the team, from how to form a shape for our bowls, to design and decoration ideas - but for the most part were left alone to press, prod and mould our items while we relaxed into an hour of being creative. The second hour allowed us to try out the pottery wheel, which honestly is harder that we thought. However, it was so much fun - hands covered in sludgy clay and the delight when you actually create a vase, cup, or blobby mess (in our case).

3 - #options were great too. We booked a two hour adults session slot (approx. AED200 each), but we could also go for a group of sessions which would work out cheaper if we wanted to do this as a weekly activity. For our money, we created our own bowls (which we can take home soon) and they would dry and colour them for us, however you can also go back for another session and learn how to glaze them in colour too. They offer lots of different packages from kids parties to corporate team building, so they literally do cater for everyone, both at the workshop or externally.

#ADRfave - the pottery wheel was the best! One of us was a pottery marvel in the making, the other was an absolute mess, but let's just say it was so much fun trying it out. The expert potter showed us how to use our hands to gently pull and mould the clay to help hollow it into a pot, but our skills lacked a certain elegance and we ended up with something that resembled a muddy puddle! (well, for one of us anyway).

#ADRtip - go with an open mind, get creative, and if you are tall ask for a shorter stool as you can get a slight back ache bending over the modelling bench.
