Professional sumo is making its Abu Dhabi debut

Abu Dhabi is getting a taste of professional sumo this September, with nine international wrestlers heading to Space42 Arena for a one-night showcase.
The All Star Sumo Elite Sumo Competition is taking place on Saturday, 26 September, bringing 36 bouts to the capital. It will be the first international professional sumo exhibition to take place in the UAE.
The lineup features wrestlers from Japan, Mongolia and Egypt, including world champions, international titleholders and an Emperor's Cup winner.
Ichi from Japan will headline the event after winning the Emperor's Cup, the highest honour in Japanese professional sumo. He'll be joined by fellow Japanese wrestler Hiroki, one of the largest active competitors in the sport, and Egypt's Ramy, an internationally decorated champion.
Other professional wrestlers from Japan and Mongolia will also take part, including World Sumo Champions and international titleholders.
If you're new to sumo, the bouts might be a little different from the sports you're used to watching. There are no rounds or scorecards, and some matches can be over in seconds. One shift in balance or a step outside the boundary can decide the whole bout.
You'll also get to see some of the traditions that come with the sport, including the pre-bout rituals performed before each match.
