Spotify's 2019 MOST STREAMED ARTIST IN THE UAE

Spotify - the world’s most popular music streaming service - has been in the Middle East and North Africa for a year, and has made browsing, discovering and sharing music easier than ever before for local music fans.  It's now launched it's 'Wrapped', an annual end of year campaign which announces the leading artists, albums, songs and playlists on the platform

So what's been the biggest song, artist and playlist of the year?

Post Malone, is the number one most streamed artist both globally and in the UAE after achieving over 6.5 billion streams on the platform from fans around the globe in 2019. Ed Sheeran is the UAE’s second most streamed artist for the year 2019 and Khalid comes in third.

Having previously topped global and local Spotify lists, it is of no surprise that Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’ summer hit “Señorita” is the most streamed song of 2019 on Spotify in the UAE, with more than 1 billion streams globally. The steamy summer track is followed by “Sunflower,” Malone’s collaboration with Swae Lee from the film Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse.  Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus  took their horses all the way to making “Old Town Road - Remix” the third most streamed track in the UAE, while “bad guy” by Billie Eilish came in fourth place and “Ransom” by Lil Tecca was the fifth most streamed song.

Female voices were a force on Spotify in 2019, with Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande coming in as the second and third most streamed artists globally.

Spotify’s second most streamed artist of 2019 globally, 17-year-old singer/songwriterBillie Eilish, had an earthshaking breakout year. She surpassed six billion streams this year alone, and her album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? is 2019’s most streamed album of the year on Spotify, marking the first time a female-led album has topped “Wrapped.”

Ariana Grande, who released her immensely popular album thank u, next in February, rounds out the top three of Spotify’s most streamed artists list, globally and is the number one most streamed female artist in the UAE.

A snapshot of the “Wrapped” 2019 Top Global and the UAE results can be found below.

Spotify can also reveal that, based on the number of streams in major cities since 2019, Dubai was the most musical city in the UAE. Spotify also found that Monday 11th February 2019 was the most musical day of this year, when Spotify saw the most streams by United Arab Emirates music fans.
