  • A 14-Day Walk Challenge at Umm Al Emarat Park to take place in Abu Dhabi from 18 March 2024

    Active Abu Dhabi, an initiative created in partnership with Emirates Foundation and PureHealth, kicks off its first event – “First Steps”, a 14-Day Walk Challenge at Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi from 18 March 2024. The 14-day challenge is open to the general public of all fitness levels. The challenge area will be open from 4 - 11pm daily from 18-31 March. Active Abu Dhabi’s “First Steps” Walk Challenge includes a 6,000-step daily challenge, 3,000 of which are achievable at Umm Al Emarat Park’s 1.2km walking route. The Walk Challenge comes with optional add on daily challenges that will give participants the opportunity to elevate their walking journey.     Saadiyat Beach Club and French swimwear brand Vilebrequin will collaborate to celebrate summer in Abu Dhabi with a takeover of the luxury beach club on Saadiyat Island from Saturday, 9 March 2024.     Yas Bay Waterfront's pop-up event is back for the Ramadan season. Waterfront Nights will run from 22 March until Eid Al Fitr at the Yas Island venue.   • More than 150 activities planned to promote a culture of reading as Abu Dhabi celebrates Reading Month 2024

    MAKTABA, the Library Management department within the Culture Sector at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) will host a range of events and activities during Reading Month 2024. This year’s celebration will coincide with the Holy Month of Ramadan and will see a number of planned cultural evenings across Abu Dhabi. MAKTABA's cultural programme for Reading Month and Ramadan offers over 150 different events and workshops, to include programmes, seminars, reading workshops, and activities for children, students, young adults, adults, and people of determination. The lineup also includes literary evenings during the Holy Month and the launch of initiatives like '31 Essays… 31 Days' where excerpts from 31 books will be chosen for adults to read over the course of 31 days and the community-driven 'MAKTABA’s Bazaar’ for families in the Al Dhafra Region. As part of MAKTABA's offerings during Reading Month 2024, Arabic Calligraphy Week will feature workshops and professional courses in different styles of Arabic calligraphy. Additionally, there'll be an 'AI and Reading' workshop, aiming to reinforce the culture of reading and contribute to cultivating a knowledgeable and scientifically informed reading society. During Ramadan, MAKTABA will host weekly educational competitions for children on the Holy Month, along with reading workshops covering children's tales and stories of the prophets.     Abu Dhabi is set to host this year’s edition of the Saudi Super Cup in two stadiums across the emirate, on 8 and 11 April 2024, marking the first time the tournament has been hosted in the Middle East outside of Saudi Arabia. The three-match tournament kicks off on 8 April at 9pm (UAE time) between Al-Ittihad Club and Al Wehda FC at Al-Nahyan Stadium, followed by Al Hilal SFC and Al-Nassr FC at the Mohamed Bin Zayed Stadium at 11:30 pm (UAE time). Taking place in the same venue, the winners will face off during the 11 April final.
