Fujairah

If you are planning a weekend on the East Coast, you can skip the three-hour drive. The Etihad Rail passenger service now runs directly from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, cutting the journey down to just 1 hour and 45 minutes.

You can essentially skip the highway traffic entirely, catch up on a book, and step off right into the mountains.

Fujairah offers a very different side of the UAE from the city skylines of Abu Dhabi. It is known for its mountain landscapes, beaches, diving spots, historic forts, and slower pace of life.

Spend the morning snorkelling or kayaking by the sea, head to wadis in the afternoon, and stop by landmarks like Fujairah Fort or Al Bidya Mosque along the way. We’ve put together a list of where to stay, what to do, and the stops worth adding to your Fujairah itinerary.

Where to stay

Radisson Blu Resort Fujairah

If waking up to the sea is part of your ideal Fujairah plan, head to Radisson Blu Resort for a beachfront experience. Set along a private beach near Dibba, the property has five outdoor pools, a gym, and an on-site diving centre if you want to spend part of the trip snorkelling or scuba diving.

Food-wise, you have a few different options depending on the mood. Breeze is the all-day dining restaurant with international buffets and beach views, while Grand Bleu is better for a laidback lunch or sunset drink by the pool. If you are craving Indian food after a long beach day, Masala serves tandoori dishes, curries, and fresh naan with outdoor seating overlooking the water.

If you’re travelling with children you can even book larger two and three-bedroom suites, while the kids’ club helps keep them occupied during the stay.

If you prefer a more modern vibe, Address Beach Resort Fujairah is further down the coast in Al Aqah. Because of how it sits between the Hajar Mountains and the sea, you have various options for your view, ranging from the ocean and the pools to the hills behind the property. The resort has three outdoor pools, including a separate adults-only one, alongside the main beach area.

Food-wise, you have four different spots to choose from. The Restaurant handles the daily international menu, and there are separate casual lounges by the pool and the lobby for quick snacks or drinks. For a proper sit-down dinner, SALiA is a seafood bar and grill right on the beach. For family trips, you can just upgrade to the two- or three-bedroom suites and beachfront villas, and there is an indoor Qix Kids Club right there to keep children entertained.Plus, you can also explore the early bird offer for up to 25% on your stay.

For dining, Bistro 1550 serves the daily international buffet with an open kitchen, while Dura Café in the lobby is a good stop for coffee, pastries, and quick bites. Beaches and outdoor spots

Al Aqah Beach

Check out Al Aqah beach, one of the most popular stretches along the East Coast. Framed by the Hajar Mountains on one side and the Gulf of Oman on the other, you can go snorkelling, diving, kayaking, or paddleboarding straight from this stretch of coastline.

A lot of the beachfront resorts are located along the area, but you can also stop by for walks along the shore, or just to sit by the water for a few hours. On clear days, you can spot Snoopy Island just offshore.

Where: Al Aqah Beach

Price: Public access available in some areas, while resorts offer paid day passes

Snorkelling at Snoopy Island

Head to Snoopy Island in Al Aqah, a small rocky island just off the beach where you can swim, kayak or paddleboard out without booking a boat tour. You can rent gear straight from the shore and head directly into the water.

While snorkelling, keep an eye out for colourful reef fish, coral gardens, sea turtles and, occasionally, blacktip reef sharks. Mornings are usually the best time to go for calmer water and better visibility.

You can access the spot via Sandy Beach Hotel & Resort, where snorkelling gear is available to rent and day passes provide beach access and facilities.

When: Daily from 8:00 am until sunset

Where: Al Aqah Beach, Fujairah

Dibba beach

If you’re looking for a peaceful beach stop without the resort crowds, Dibba Public Beach might be worth checking out. The coastline here feels more local and laidback, with fishing boats moving in and out of the harbour and plenty of open space to set up for the day.

You can set up camp, and evening barbecues during the cooler months, and you will usually find food trucks parked nearby on weekends. The mountain backdrop also makes this stretch feel very different from the busier beaches around Al Aqah.

The water gets deep quite quickly in some areas, so if you are visiting with younger children, keep them close to shore.

Cultural spots

Al Bidya Mosque

Built in 1599, this mud-and-stone structure is officially the oldest surviving mosque in the UAE and sits against a backdrop of mountains and watchtowers that takes about 20 minutes to see.

The mosque itself is small and simple, but the architecture stands out. Instead of wooden beams, the roof is supported by a single central pillar connected to four domes made from mud, stone, and plaster. Inside, you can still see the original prayer niche and ventilation openings built into the walls.

You only need around 15 to 20 minutes here, making it a good quick stop between beach visits and road trips along the East Coast.

Fujairah Fort and Heritage Village

It was used as both a defensive base and a home for the local rulers. You can walk through the restored mud-brick passageways, climb the watchtowers, and get views across Fujairah city and the surrounding mountains.

Just below the fort, the Heritage Village recreates traditional Emirati homes and farming life, with old-style kitchens, palm-frond houses, and displays of local tools and crafts.

Al Bithnah Fort

Bithnah Fort sits inside Wadi Ham, surrounded by mountain views and open valley space. You can walk through the courtyard, explore the stone structure, and climb up the towers for wide views across the surrounding landscape.

It is a quiet heritage site where you can take a short break, catch the views, and spend a few minutes relaxing before continuing through Fujairah’s interior.

Souq Al Juma (The Friday Market)
