Go Off Grid with an Island Escape to Sir Bani Yas Island
About three hours west of downtown Abu Dhabi, a trip to Sir Bani Yas Island is something every UAE resident should experience. This fascinating destination is the crest of a salt dome created millions of years ago. The island is home to a number of historical sites, like remnants of the Last Stone Age and early Islamic structures and even the first pre-Islamic Christian site found in the country. Sir Bani Yas was even mentioned in European literature from 1590. The island is also home to around 13,000 animals like the Arabian Oryx, giraffes, ostriches, gazelle, deer, sea turtles, dolphins, cheetahs and hyenas thanks to the Arabian Wildlife Park. While on the island you can take wildlife and history tours, participate in sports like archery, mountain biking, kayaking and more. You can even take cooking classes and learn how to use traditional Arabic spices.
